The PERMASCOPE® is a versatile module for coating thickness measurement. It combines two measuring methods: the magnetic induction and eddy current methods.

Typical applications:

  • Electrically insulating coatings on various metals, e. g. paint on steel or aluminum
  • Electrically conductive, non-magnetizable layers on ferrous metals, such as zinc, copper or chromium on steel
  • Weakly electrically conductive layers on highly conductive metals, e. g. chrome and electroless nickel on copper or aluminum
  • Thickness of solder layer on copper in printed circuit board production
  • Graphite layers on piston surfaces or corrosion protection layers on brake disks in the automotive sector
  • Ferrite content in austenitic or duplex steels

The SIGMASCOPE® / PHASCOPE® determines the electrical conductivity of metals and can be used either for coating thickness measurement or for identifying non-ferrous metals.

Typical applications SIGMASCOPE® / PHASCOPE®1:

  • Measuring copper layers on PCBs
  • Testing of aluminum alloys in incoming goods
  • Electrical conductivity of non-magnetic metals such as copper, aluminum, titanium
  • Copper layers in printed circuit board holes
  • Coatings of Cu, Zn, Ni on ferromagnetic base materials (steel or iron)

Typical applications SIGMASCOPE® / PHASCOPE®2:

  • Copper layers in printed circuit board holes

The PHASCOPE® DUPLEX was specially developed for the automotive industry to measure duplex coatings (paint and zinc on steel) in a single step. It uses three measuring methods: the magnetic inductive measuring method as well as the amplitude-sensitive and phase-sensitive eddy current method.

Typical applications:

  • Paint on steel and aluminum
  • Paint and zinc coatings (thin EPD coatings) on steel; both coatings are measured in one step
  • Brake line hoses
  • Wire (mesh and grid), such as for shopping carts

The NICKELSCOPE® is based on the Hall effect and uses the different magnetizability of the coating and base material for coating thickness measurement.

Typical applications:

  • Electroplated nickel layers on non-ferrous metals and insulating base materials
  • Non-magnetic coatings such as copper, aluminum or lead on steel or iron
  • Ferrous coatings on piston surfaces in the automotive sector

The SR-SCOPE® is a special module for the electronics industry. It uses the micro-resistance method and is suitable for measuring the thickness of individual copper layers on multilayer PCBs - without the influence of deeper layers.

Typical applications:

  • Copper thickness on laminates or multilayers in PCB production

The microresistivity measurement method used by the SR-SCOPE® is very temperature-dependent. To be on the safe side and obtain precise and reproducible measurement results, the temperature module is the ideal addition to the SR-SCOPE® module.
